ADVANCEMENT

THE PURPOSE OF SCOUTING GUIDING IS TO DEVELOP THE INHERENT POTENTIAL OF THE YOUNG PEOPLE BY PROVIDING THEM A NUMBER OF STRUCTURED ACTIVITIES IN ORDER TO MAKE THEM PHYSICALLY, MENTALLY, SOCIALLY, SPIRITUALLY AND EMOTIONALLY STRONG AND USEFUL CITIZENS OF THE NATION.

The aim is achieved through a combination of activities and programmes offered at the Unit level and a structured syllabus which offers programmes and activities through progressive Advancement Scheme. The Progressive Advancement is designed to satisfy the needs of each age group and is contained in APRO Part II for Scout Wing and in APRO Part III for Guide Wing.

CUB ADVANCEMENT

SCHEME OF ADVANCEMENT OF A CUB :

  • A Boy can be registered as a Cub Aspirant on completion of five years of age and invested after working for at least three months and completed the requirements of the Pravesh test.
  • A Pravesh Cub will work at least for three months to qualify for Pratham Charan.
  • A Pratham Charan Cub will work atleast for three months to qualify for Dwitiya Charan.
  • A Dwitiya Charan Cub will work for at least nine months to qualify for Tritiya Charan badge.
  • A Tritiya Charan Cub will work for atleast nine months to qualify for Chaturtha Charan.
  • A Chaturth Chran Cub having earned totally six proficiency badges one badge each in Tritiya Charan and Chaturth Charan, remaining four badges to be earned from the proficiency badge groups not earned earlier. He may be awarded a special badge called “Golden Arrow” before completing ten years of age.
  • For Pravesh and Pratham Charan the Cub Master will arrange for training and testing.
  • From Dwitiya Charan onwards and for Proficiency Badges Training Counsellors will arrange testing.

BULBUL ADVANCEMENT

SCHEME FOR ADVANCEMENT OF A BULBUL:

  • A girl can be registered as a Bulbul Aspirant on completion of five years of age and invested after working for at least three months and completed the requirement of the Pravesh test.
  • A Pravesh Bulbul will work at least for three months to qualify for Komal Pankh.
  • A Komal Pankh Bulbul will work for at least three months to qualify for Rajat Pankh.
  • A Rajat Pankh Bulbul will work for at least nine months to qualify for Swarna Pankh.
  • A Swarna Pankh Bulbul will work for at least nine months to qualify for Heerak Pankh.
  • A Heerak Pankh Bulbul have earned totally six Proficiency Badges, one badge each in Swarna Pankh and Heerak Pankh, remaining four badges to be earned from the proficiency badge groups not earned earlier. She may be awarded a special badge called “Golden Arrow” before completing ten years of age.
  • From Rajat Pankh onwards and for all Proficiency Badges, Training Counsellors will arrange testing.

SCOUT/ GUIDE ADVANCEMENT

SCHEME FOR ADVANCEMENT OF A SCOUT/GUIDE :

  • A Pravesh Scout/Guide will work at least for six months to qualify for Pratham Sopan.
  • A Pratham Sopan Scout/Guide will work for at least six months to qualify for Dwitiya Sopan.
  • A Dwitiya Sopan Scout/Guide will work for at least six months to qualify for Tritiya Sopan.
  • A Tritiya Sopan Scout/Guide will work for at least nine months to qualify for Rajya Puraskar Badge.
  • A Rajya Puraskar Scout/Guide shall work for twelve months to appear for Rashtrapati Scout/Guide Award Test.
  • Efficiency Cords:
    • Scout/Guide Efficiency Cords are made of chiffon Threads specially designed, supplied by N.H.Q. It shall be worn under the right shoulder strap extending the cord to the top of right pocket stitched horizontally just above the BSG Stripe.
    • After Dwitiya Sopan Badge, a Scout/Guide may earn more proficiency badges.
    • If a Dwitiya Sopan Scout/Guide earns six proficiency badges in all shall be awarded Blue Cord by the Assistant Dist. Commissioner.
    • If a Tritiya Sopan Scout/Guide earns twelve proficiency badges in all shall be awarded Green Cord by the Dist. Commissioner
    • If a Rajya Puraskar Scout/Guide earns eighteen proficiency badges in all shall be awarded Golden Cord by the District Chief Commissioner.
    • JUNGLE GOPH (For Scouts only) :
      • After the Rashtrapati Award, a Scout is eligible to earn Jungle Goph Cord which will be presented by the Dist. Chief Commissioner.
      • Among the below mentioned Proficiency Badges, he has to qualify five Proficiency Badges not earned earlier: Back woodsman, Civil Defence, Map Maker, Archer, Meteorologist, Camper, Climber, Pioneer, Rescuer, Signaller, Explorer, Herbalist, Hiker, Naturalist, Stalker, Tracker, Fireman, and Swimmer.
      • A Jungle Goph Cord is of Olive Green colour and will be worn in place of Gold Cord.

ROVER/ RANGER ADVANCEMENT

SCHEME FOR ADVANCEMENT OF A ROVER/RANGER :

  • A boy of fifteen years of age can be admitted as a Rover/Ranger Aspirant.
  • A Rover/Ranger Aspirant can be invested as a Rover/Ranger.
  • A Rover/Ranger Aspirant will work at least for three months to complete Pravesh test before investiture.
  • A Pravesh Rover/Ranger will work at least for six months to qualify for Nipun Badge.
  • A Nipun Rover/Ranger will work at least for nine months to qualify for Rajya Puraskar Rover/Ranger Badge.
  • A Rajya Puraskar Rover/Ranger will work at least for one year to qualify for Rashtrapati Rover Award.
  • Efficiency Cords:
    Rover Efficiency Cords are made of chiffon threads specially designed will be supplied by N.H.Q. It will be worn under the right shoulder strap extending the cord to the top of right pocket stitched horizontally just above the BSG Stripe.
    • After Nipun Badge, a Rover/Ranger may earn more proficiency badges.
    • If a Nipun Rover/Ranger earns seven proficiency badges in all shall be awarded Yellow Cord by the Dist. Chief Commissioner
    • If a Rajya Puraskar Rover/Ranger earns twelve proficiency badges in all shall be awarded Purple Cord by the Dist. Chief Commissioner
    • If a Rashtrapati Rover/Ranger earns five proficiency badges not earned before shall be awarded Tri Colour (Blue, Green & Red) Cord by the Dist. Chief Commissioner in a ceremonial function following soon after the award of a Cord
